Bar Veloce opened its doors in March, 2000 in Manhattan's East Village. Fusing an Italian-style paninoteca (panini bar) with a modern wine bar, its goal was to deliver exciting, reasonably priced Italian wine and food to discerning New Yorkers. Since then, Bar Veloce has been devoted to a two-fold mission: to encourage the enjoyable union of wine and food, and to enable customers to make multiple visits a week.
Drawing inspiration from his travels, owner and visionaire Frederick E. Twomey recalled the casual bars of Europe, designed to provide refreshment to people en route. He has remained committed to the concept of Bar Veloce as a bar, not a café, lounge or restaurant. Sleek brushed-metal stools and a long blondwood bar provide a sophisticated, comfortable setting in which to enjoy attentive and professional service. The elegant space serves as a watering, feeding, and meeting point where people gather for a quick glass of wine and a superior bite to eat.
